In review of 41,000 insurance claims for adults with complaints of back pain found that those seeking chiropractic care were 12% less likely to receive another opioid prescription and 46% less likely to use opioids going forward. The findings were suggestive that patients who consult with a chiropractor for new episodes of back pain could reduce long-term opioid use and misuse significantly.
